Who we are

Jubilee Economics Ministries is a diverse group in the U.S., Mexico, and Spain. JEM formed as a nonprofit Non-Government Organization (NGO) with 501(c)(3) status in 1999, planning for a new paradigm in a new century - Abundance, Enough for All.

The alternative economics we both affirm and seek is called by various names: jubilee economics, abundance economics, gift economy, economy of grace, sustainable economics, sabbath economics - to name some of the more frequently used.

JEM believes that the real change or paradigm shift now needed for a more just and sustainable world requires an integration of

  • Political will, economic integrity, right social relationships, and personal             lifestyle choices and
  • A spirituality of vision and practice that works deep in our society and souls.

We seek to practice an economics rooted in the abundance of creation as recognized by

  • Indigenous peoples, who instinctively recognized this concept and expressed it in their web-of-life cultures over the centuries and continuing to this day, and
  • The early Hebrew people who embraced it as the alternative to the economics of Egypt where they were enslaved and forced to support an economy of domination and empire with their labor.

The real change Earth needs requires us all. In our lives, our work, our neighborhoods, our organizations and congregations, can we hear the call to co-create the economic story that honors the wonder of our planet, her species, and people?

Mission

To provide eye opening education that facilitates real change toward a sustainable world with enough for all.

Vision

Another world is possible when we

  • share resources fairly
  • reclaim the planet for future generations
  • hold sacred the interrelatedness of life
  • live intentionally in peace and community

. . . in order that those with more will not have too much and those with less will not have too little - not someday, but now.
